Placement Exams

Southeast Technical College - Testing Center

Accuplacer

Southeast Technical College is committed to providing students with opportunities for successful academic experiences, and we know student academic achievement is directly related to proper initial course placement. The Accuplacer test assists in proper course placement for English and math.

Southeast Tech offers the Reading and Writing sections of the Accuplacer for English course placement and the Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra and Statistics (QAS) section of the Accuplacer test for math course placement.

If you wish to take the Accuplacer to test out of MATH 100 or MATH 101, please call or email the Testing Center for instructions.

Preparation

Applicants are strongly encouraged to prepare for this exam. Even if you scored high on the ACT or other standardized tests, do not assume you are prepared for the Accuplacer.

We recommend that you review the following:

Testing Day Details

  • Arrive 15 minutes early.
  • You must provide a valid, government-issued photo ID at check in.
  • There is no time limit for this test, so plan to take your time.
  • Most applicants will spend approximately two hours testing.
  • Breaks are not allowed during testing. If you leave, you will not be allowed to resume testing.
  • Accuplacer uses computer-adaptive technology and the questions you see are based on your skill level. Your response to each question drives the difficulty level of the next question, so it’s important to give each question as much thought as you can before selecting your answer.

Cost and Registration

Registration is required for the Accuplacer exam. The pricing structure for students enrolling at STC is as follows.

  1. 1st Attempt

    Free.

  2. 2nd Attempt

Free, no waiting period. It is difficult to increase scores on the Accpulacer exam, so while there is no waiting period for the 2nd attempt, it is recommended that you take time to study before retesting.

  3. 3rd Attempt

    $35 with a 10-day waiting period.

  4. 4th Attempt

    $35 with a 30-day waiting period.

Individuals that are applying to a college that is not STC must contact the Testing Center for cost and proctoring details.

Notes:
  • No same day retakes are allowed.
  • If you are unable to attend your reserved testing session, you must contact the Testing Center prior to the start of the testing session. If you do not contact the Testing Center, you may be marked as a "No Show" reservation and it may count as one of your attempts.
  • You will not be authorized to register for testing if you have a past due balance and/or an Account Receivable hold in the Southeast Technical College Business Office.
  • If it has been more than 2 years since your last attempt, your count will reset to 0.
